NetBeans Collaboration Service

Note: the collaboration server share.java.net is discontinued as of April 20, 2009.

The Developer Collaboration feature in NetBeans IDE needs a collaboration server.

We have set up a server that you can configure your NetBeans IDE to use, to collaborate with other members of the community.

Start Now!

To sign up and use the shared developer collaboration server:

  1. In the NetBeans IDE (with Developer Collaboration modules installed), choose Collaborate > Login to open the Collaboration window.
  2. Click Add an account.
  3. Select I want to register for a new collaboration account on share.java.net.
  4. Read the terms and conditions and accept it by checking the checkbox. Click next.
  5. Enter a display name for the account. It will be used as display name both locally and on server.
  6. Choose the proxy type. Keep in mind that both username and password are proxy server credentials (thus local to your company network) and in most network setups should be left empty. For HTTPS proxy type, don't forget the port number. Examples:
    • SOCKS5: hostname=socks:1080
    • HTTPS: webcache:8080
  7. Click Next.
  8. Fill in registration info (name, mail), and click Next.
  9. Enter the login name and password and press Finish.
  10. Click Login to log in to the new account.
That's it!

Known issues

  • "Error: Server Disconnected". This error can occur when the user is connected to share.java.net, doesn't use a proxy server and the IDE is kept idle over a period of 15 minutes. There is an automatic reconnect feature implemented which tries to reestabilish the server connection immediatelly.
